Late 2009 was witness to a select number of conservative advertisers including insurance giant GIO removing their domain names for TVC and print based advertising call to actions in favour of a search box with the appropriate business name typed in alongside the traditional phone number.
This move by top advertisers backs up trends we have been seeing in our site analytics for months. Users are now more likely to now simply use Google (or use another search engine) to search for a business name, rather than type the full domain in the browsers address bar. And why not, searching for the name will more likely give you quick access to the website homepage, instead of guessing at the domain name if you were not 100% familiar with the spelling or domain type. It also opens up access to internal pages quicker, say if you were searching specifically for business contact details.
So what does this mean for your business? It creates an even stronger argument for completion of an ongoing search engine optimisation campaign on your website to ensure that a) your website actually appears on all major search engines, b) secondly, the site is well optimised to your required keywords and a standard which search engines require and finally c) that you gain popularity by keyword rich, incoming links, the key to increasing your rank on your keywords and generate more traffic.
Thomas Marsden offer a fully managed Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) program that is guaranteed to add value to your website, increase rank and drive more search traffic through your pages.

Google Adwords offer some extraordinary tools that allow you to very easily design and implement a targeted search advertising campaign in as little as 30 minutes. This articles delves deep into the rich toolset offered, which will allow you to optimise your keywords and ad placement to make your dollar go further and gain better results.
1. Optimise your keywords
Good optimisation of your keywords is the first place to start. The inbuilt keyword selection tool, can give you a very accurate gauge on keyword popularity, advertiser competition and estimated cost per click data.
2. Target specific geographical locations
By default, Adwords will display your ads worldwide, this may be perfect if you have an online shop, with the ability to distribute products internationally. But if you are a service orientated business, only targeting users in NSW or Sydney then clicks outside this area are wasted money, Adwords allows you to select very specific geographic regions for display of your ads, with approximately 20 zones within NSW alone.
3. Rotate Ad Creative
Ad creative, or the text displayed on your ads is the bait to capture your potential customer. Instead of running a single ad for each set of keywords, take advantage of ad rotation, that way the most popular ads are shown more, resulting in more clicks.4. Configure your ad display times
If your product or service primarily targets businesses, displaying ads on the weekend or at night would statically yield less results than those displayed within normal work hours. For the best results, particularly if you have a limited budget, think like your potential customers, and what time they are most likely to be searching for your product or service.
And finally, once you have completed the previous 4…
5. Spend more, Get more.
Even the best optimised ads and keywords will only take your traffic levels so far, once you are satisfied your ads are correctly targeted and generating definite leads, increase your daily ad spend to generate more traffic and therefore sales.

Its one thing to know where your website receives traffic from, but another thing all together to see which methods are actually achieving you results…. The answer: Google Analytics and Website Goals…
Google Analytics is by far the most comprehensive statistics package available to website administrators, based on the enterprise level Urchin statistics software, Google offer this service at no cost and are constantly providing extremely useful extended features.
One feature commonly overlooked, or put on the backburner is Website Goals. The feature does basically what it states, allows you to define a set of practical goals for your website traffic, in the same way you would with any marketing strategy, but automated and for your website. Some example can include:
Goals can be configured for most common traffic sources, and even can include tracking of traditional mediums such as phone calls and print based publications. Making use of this features provides you with a much more extensive overview of how users enter and travel through your website, navigational trends and more accurate statistics on where to direct your advertising dollar to capture customers that lead to sales.
If you would like to make the most of your websites’ analytics, get in touch to discuss the options.
